Hardcover art pads with a board under every page
A hard cover turns a pad into its own drawing board. Ours open a full 180 degrees on a sturdy coil, sit flat on a table or a lap, and close over finished work so graphite does not rub off inside a bag. Every sheet is micro-perforated, so a page leaves the pad with a straight edge and the rest stay put.
We color-code the covers by paper so you can tell them apart on a shelf. Black, brown and gray wirebound sketchbooks hold 60 sheets of 150 gsm paper. Yellow covers hold 60 sheets of 200 gsm marker paper. Black top-spiral pads hold 32 sheets of 300 gsm watercolor paper, and white covers hold 20 sheets of 400 gsm mixed media paper for acrylic and heavy washes. Sizes run from 8x10 to 11x14 inches.

Before you pick
Which cover for wet paint?
Black top-spiral for watercolor at 300 gsm, white for acrylic, gouache and mixed media at 400 gsm. The heavier the wash, the heavier the sheet you want under it.
Which size fits your desk?
8x10 and 8.5x11 inches suit a lap or a small table. 11x14 gives marker and watercolor work room for a full composition, and needs a clear surface.
Keeping the work or tearing it out?
Both work. The cover protects pages you keep in the pad, and the perforation gives a clean edge on pages you frame or hand in.
The first stroke is only a test
Nothing on a swatch card has to be good. It only has to tell you what the colour does. Pick a pad, pick something to mark it with, and give yourself one row of honest tests before the real drawing begins.
