Art sets packed in cases, from 73 to 283 pieces
An art set is our answer to the question of where to start. The drawing kits, at 73 and 76 pieces, zip into a soft case with graphite pencils from 2H to 8B, colored, watercolor, charcoal and metallic pencils, blending stumps and paper to use them on. They suit teens and adults who want to learn shading before they learn anything else.
The wooden cases are for trying everything. The 183-piece set covers crayons, watercolor pens, colored pencils, oil pastels and watercolor cakes. The 192-piece set adds 24 acrylic paints, three A4 canvas boards and three pads. The 283-piece set opens into a double-sided trifold easel with drawing pads and a coloring book tucked inside. Each one closes with clasps and carries by a handle.

Before you pick
Drawing or painting?
The 73 and 76 piece kits are built around pencils. For paint, look at the 192-piece set with acrylics and canvas boards.
Who is opening the case?
Younger kids get the most from the 283-piece set and its easel. Older students and adults tend to prefer the pencil kits or the 192.
Will it travel?
Zipper cases slide into a backpack. Wooden boxes are heavier and happier on a desk or carried by the handle to class.
The first stroke is only a test
Nothing on a swatch card has to be good. It only has to tell you what the colour does. Pick a pad, pick something to mark it with, and give yourself one row of honest tests before the real drawing begins.
